The Science of tattoo removal
During the process of tattooing, the tattoo pigment (ink) is driven into the skin and deposited within the skin’s dermal layer. Left untouched, the majority of the entrapped pigment will remain intact indefinitely.
Through a process known as selective photothermolysis, SkinClear TA-2 selectively targets and fragments most tattoo pigments while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed and intact. The body then eliminates the resulting smaller tattoo ink particles by phagocytosis.
SkinClear TA-2 utilizes a proprietary, organic saturable absorber for its method of Q-Switching inside the laser cavity. When the passive crystals become fully saturated with the 1064 nm energized photons, they quickly release the stored photons in a nanosecond burst of pure 1064 nm energy. The passive crystal method of Q-Switching, by design, offers the same high-speed release of energy as devices utilizing mechanical switching, but with improved reliability, economy and longevity. SkinClear TA-2 also requires less maintenance due to having fewer optical elements inside the laser cavity.
SkinClear TA2 Self Contained Laser Handpiece
No more bersome, delicate articulated arm and mirror systems. SkinClear TA-2 features a high performance optical cavity contained within an easy-tohold laser handpiece. The direct delivery laser handpiece replaces the high maintenance articulated arm and multiple mirror systems used in many other lasers. The laser handpiece is low-maintenance, requires no alignment and requires only an annual recalibration. The short optical cavity produces a higher Q (i.e., quality of the cavity relative to loss of energy) with lower energy loss and a desirable high powered laser pulse. The compact, self-contained cavity produces a direct delivery output pulse with a flat (top-hat) beam profile. ‘Direct Delivery’ provides even distribution of laser energy to the target, with minimal risk of collateral damage to the tissue.
Dual Wavelengths (1064 nm or 532 nm)
SkinClear TA-2 incorporates a KTP crystal frequency doubling dual wavelength feature to allow the user to easily change from a 1064 nm to a 532 nm single-wavelength laser beam. The frequency doubling dual wavelength feature allows you to treat multiple indications and several different tattoo colors and pigments.
Super Q Passive Organic Crystals
for Optimal Performance
Most lasers use active/mechanical means to accomplish Q-Switching. These mechanical methods can include electrical switches (utilizing the Pockels effect), rotating prisms and acoustooptic Q-Switching. Mechanical Q-Switching methods require periodic maintenance and calibration to retain optimal efficiency.

This is the first treatment of an older (5+ years old) professional black, approximately 2 sq inch. The black will be removed very well but it will take several sessions. We did not use any numbing cream, just some ice. The patient reported pain level of 2 out of 10, so very tolerable pain.
We used the state-of-the-art Hoya Conbio C6 Medlite 1064nm laser to perform this treatment, the fastest and most powerful laser on the market, shooting twice as fast as its competing devices. This means quicker treatment time and less total number of treatments will be necessary. Underpowered and slower laser means you will need more treatments and the actual treatment time will be longer. Note that this entire treatment is completed in less than 1 minute.

Laser tattoo removal of an amateur tattoo on the breast by Medispa Institute in Houston, TX. http://www.medispainstitute.com/menu_laser_tattoo.html
This is the first session of laser tattoo removal for this particular tattoo. The tattoo is an amateur tattoo more than 10 years old. I estimate it will take somewhere between 3-6 sessions for full removal. The laser tattoo removal was performed using a q-switched 1064nm laser, the fastest and most powerful tattoo removal laser on the market, the C6 Hoya Conbio. A faster laser means that the treatments will not be as painful. A powerful laser means that the removal will take less sessions overall.

Laser Tattoo Removal by Medispa Institute in Houston, TX. Tel: 832-300-5593 http://www.medispainstitute.com/menu_laser_tattoo.html
This is the first session of laser tattoo removal of a brand new, 4 month old tattoo on African-American skin. I estimate this will take a minimum of 8 sessions, possibly more because the darker color of skin limits the use of higher energy for removal. In other words, for darker skin tones, we need to use lower energies during the treatments, which is spread out over more sessions. There are 23 stars all over the arm and the ink is mainly black but also has red, blue, green, and some light yellow pigment mixed into some of it. We used the state of the art q-switched 1064nm and 532nm laser to complete this removal. The patient was given numbing cream which she applied for approximately 1 hour. We also used ice to help numb the area and prevent blistering. She barely felt any pain reporting anywhere from “5 out of 10″ when we just started, to “2 out of 10″ in pain for the majority of the procedure. Aquaphor cream and ice were applied immediately post treatment to prevent blistering.

Laser tattoo removal at Medispa Institute in Houston, TX. http://www.medispainstitute.com/menu_laser_tattoo.html
This is the first treatment of a professional black tattoo. There is immediate whitening signifying absorption of the laser beam by the pigment in the tattoo. This whitening fades within minutes. Ice is used to cool the area, but no numbing cream. This will take 8 or more treatments to fully remove. The patient is an Asian male, which means we have to be careful about pigmentation changes. The laser used was a qswitched ndyag (1064nm) laser.
All treatments performed by certified laser specialists.

Laser tattoo removal by Medispa Institute in Houston, TX.
http://www.medispainstitute.com/menu_laser_tattoo.html
This is a fairly old, multi-colored tattoo. The black ink and red ink will be removed the easiest,
while the yellow, green, and orange ink will be difficult to remove. This video shows the first
treatment. We used ice as an analgesic. Notice that the laser only selects for the black in this
video. That is because the wavelength (1064nm) selectively targets the black ink. The 1064nm
wavelenght is in the infrared spectrum which is not visible to human eyes. The laser used to remove
the reds is in the 532nm spectrum which is the visible spectrum. We have not included that in this
video because the flashing from the 532nm laser creates too much interference in the video recording.
This treatment is performed by nationally certified laser specialist using state of the art, top of the line,
fastest and most powerful laser on the market today, the c6 Medlite by Hoya Conbio, which is a q-switched 1064nm laser and 532nm qswitched laser.

Tel: 832-300-5593. Laser Tattoo Removal by Medispa Institute in Houston, Texas, using a state-of-the-art q-switched laser, the fastest tattoo removal laser on the market. This is the first treatment of 10+ year old tattoo, which can be removed in about 6-8 sessions. All treatments are performed by highly trained certified medical laser safety officers, specialists who have treated hundreds of tattoos. Two different lasers will be used to remove this tattoo, a q-switched nd:yag (1064nm) and a q-switched 532nm laser, one for the black, one for the red tattoo, respectively. The 532nm laser is in the visible spectrum which means it flashes brightly during the treatment – as a result the video quality is not good for the red tattoo removal and we have not included it with this video.

Laser Tattoo Removal by Medispa Institute in Houston, TX. http://www.medispainstitute.com/menu_laser_tattoo.html
This is laser tattoo removal of a permanent makeup (tattoo) eyebrow. This tatoo is actually 3 different tattoos in one. The patient had a black tattoo, then a flesh colored tattoo, then a dark brown/mixed color tattoo done over several years time. This video is the first treatment session. You see immeidate lightening of the darker pigments, but to fully remove this tattoo several sessions are necessary (8 sessions+). Also, the flesh colored pigment may not be removed at all. We used a state of the art q-switched laser C6 medlite by Hoya Conbio, the fastest laser on the market. This video was shot using the 10hz range, whereas other devices typically shoot in the 5hz range.
